From hairdressing to heavy machinery, trucks and civil construction leadership – Kellie Condon’s career journey is anything but conventional.
Kellie never originally planned to work in construction. Her first career was as a hairdresser, but a working holiday job in Traffic Control introduced her to the construction industry and sparked an interest that would ultimately become a long-term career.
From there, Kellie worked her way through the industry, progressing from General Labourer to operating heavy machinery and driving trucks, before stepping into leadership roles as a Leading Hand and then Foreperson.
Today, Kellie is taking another important step in her career as Operations Supervisor at Kerry Drainage & Civil.
Her recent promotion is a significant personal milestone, but for Kellie it also represents something bigger.
“It’s not only a significant personal milestone but also demonstrates that women can lead and succeed in this industry.”
Kellie’s career is a great example of how there is no single pathway into civil construction. With the right attitude, willingness to learn and opportunities to develop, a role in the industry can evolve into a rewarding and long-term career.
Her progression through hands-on roles and into leadership has given her a valuable understanding of both the practical and operational sides of civil construction – experience she now brings to her role overseeing operations at Kerry Drainage & Civil.
A finalist for Women in Contracting
The Kerry Drainage & Civil team are incredibly proud to see Kellie recognised as a finalist in the Women in Contracting category at the Auckland CCNZ HYNDS Construction Awards.
The awards recognise people and organisations making a positive contribution to the construction industry, and Kellie’s nomination is a fantastic acknowledgement of the experience, leadership and commitment she brings to her role.
For Kellie, it is another milestone in a career that started somewhere completely unexpected — and is continuing to go from strength to strength.
Congratulations Kellie – we’re proud to have you as part of the Kerry Drainage & Civil team and look forward to seeing what comes next.
