Working beneath a busy Auckland street and footpath, Kerry Drainage & Civil installed 200m of new sewer infrastructure by microtunnelling, maintaining precise line and grade while navigating a complex network of existing underground services.
As part of the enabling works for the City Rail Link’s Karangahape Road Station, Kerry Drainage & Civil was engaged by City Rail Link to install new sewer and stormwater infrastructure beneath Beresford Square.

The project involved the installation of 200m of 300mm PVC-U SN16 RESTRAIN pipe, at depths of approximately 3–4m, using microtunnelling. The trenchless approach enabled the new infrastructure to be installed beneath the existing street and footpath while minimising disruption at the surface.
With existing underground services crossing the alignment, maintaining precise line and grade throughout the boring operation was critical. The works required careful planning and accurate control of the tunnelling path to ensure the new pipeline was installed safely and accurately through the constrained urban environment.
