With Lake View Road prone to flooding and the protected waters of Lake Pupuke at the end of the network, Kerry Drainage & Civil delivered a major stormwater upgrade designed to improve flood resilience while protecting the surrounding environment.

Lake View Road in Takapuna was prone to frequent flooding during the wet winter months. Kerry Drainage & Civil was engaged by Auckland Council to deliver a major stormwater upgrade and flood mitigation project, installing almost 1km of new stormwater infrastructure from Killarney Park through to Rangitira Avenue.

The project combined open-cut trenching, horizontal directional drilling and axis/pipe jacking, allowing trenchless construction methods to be used wherever practical. This significantly reduced the amount of carriageway that needed to be excavated and reinstated while allowing the new network to navigate the existing urban environment.

The upgraded network included 27 new catchpits, including HUSH pits fitted with tetra traps to capture debris and help prevent solid pollution entering Lake Pupuke. Around 32 residential house connections were also diverted from kerb outlets to direct connections, bringing the network in line with Auckland Council’s stormwater standards.

The new pipeline created an improved stormwater route from Killarney Park through to a new outlet at Lake Pupuke, helping address ongoing flooding issues while providing a more robust and compliant stormwater network for the surrounding area.

“We have had works going on over the past seven months on our road in Takapuna. I just wanted to do a big shout out for all your staff involved. They were always friendly, courteous and patient with us as residents, making sure we were inconvenienced as little as possible.”
