Protecting a local waterway from erosion and sediment, Kerry Drainage & Civil replaced a failing 44m gabion retaining wall running through Lynfield Reserve.
A 44m retaining wall along the Wairaki Stream at Lynfield Reserve was showing signs of failure, with the existing gabion baskets deteriorating and the wall at risk of collapse.
A failure of the wall could have resulted in a significant sediment load entering the stream, while also exposing adjacent land to erosion. Kerry Drainage & Civil was engaged by Auckland Council to replace the failing structure and protect both the watercourse and surrounding land.
Working within the stream environment, the project required careful construction to manage the existing watercourse while replacing the deteriorating retaining structure. The completed works provided a more robust solution for stabilising the stream edge and protecting the reserve from further erosion.
